Top 3 Takeaways from the Spring 2022 Mass Torts Made Perfect Seminar

by Ben Dozier | April 20, 2022

Twice a year, plaintiff attorneys gather in Las Vegas at the Mass Torts Made Perfect (MTMP) conference to connect and learn about the latest updates on the hottest mass tort cases. It was a pleasure for me to attend and absorb the current trends, data, and what to expect on the mass tort front.

MTMP in Vegas, Baby!

I’m happy to share that what happened in Vegas at MTMP did not stay in Vegas. Here are my key takeaways from this year’s seminar:

  1. Generating significant buzz at MTMP was “NEC.” Premature infants born after 1991 who were fed cow’s milk-based infant formula have suffered serious side effects like necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a dangerous neonatal digestive disease that is often fatal. We first saw advertising for NEC cases back in October 2021 and interest has continued to grow. While the case universe is (thankfully) relatively small, more and more firms are investing in this litigation.

  2. Talcum powder ovarian cancer and the Johnson & Johnson bankruptcy presents an interesting opportunity. Some firms are in a “wait and see” mindset, while others are taking advantage of the advertising lull to gather as many cases as they can.

  3. Zantac is still of interest, with revised criteria: bladder, esophageal, gastric/stomach, liver, or pancreatic cancers are what we’re seeking.

At cj, we stay on top of all the latest and greatest in mass torts to help keep you informed. We’re actively running campaigns for multiple trending torts right now, and we were the first to market on Paraquat earlier this year.
