5th Annual Tomato 5k + cj’s Camels with a Cause

by Jordan Redfearn | August 14, 2010

This year’s Tomato 5k is going to be juicier than ever. And that means greater awareness and more funds to support the YMCA’s We Build People campaign. With the help of Camels with a Cause, every dollar raised in this year’s Tomato 5k will benefit people who otherwise could not afford membership with the Margaret Maddox Family YMCA in East Nashville.

It’s that time of year again, and Camels In Training are on a mission to reach their goal to be the fastest flock (even if they’re the only flock) on asphalt and to raise as much money as they can to support the YMCA’s We Build People campaign. These cardio camels are up for the challenge and have been training hard.

The Blevins East Nashville Tomato 5k presented by Camels with a Cause will take place on Saturday, August 14, 2010, at East Nashville’s Five Points, on the corner of South 11th Street and Woodland Street. There will be a Kids’ Fun Run at 7 a.m., followed by the 5k at 7:30 a.m., and immediately following is the Tomato Arts Festival.

Nashville’s Tomato Arts Festival is one of the city’s favorite festivals for community, culture, and tomatoes! True to the Tomato Festival motto—“the tomato…a uniter, not a divider—bringing together fruits and vegetables”—the Tomato Fest is free to the public, and last year brought together an estimated 20,000 people. The festival has become a staple of the Nashville community, and was even voted “Best Festival” by the Nashville Scene Reader’s Polls, three years in a row!
